Botswana's Kasane International Airport's upgraded terminal building will officially open on February 22. The original building was built in 1991. It has been expanded from 1 300 to 7 800 sqm. Additional refurbishments include the runway and surrounding areas being extended. Provision has also been made for airfield ground lighting and an electrified boundary fence.
Tourism is expected to flourish with these airport developments. Air connectivity has been perceived as the weak link in the tourism value chain, and the refreshed terminal will hopefully improve the situation.
As a gateway to the Chobe National Park which showcases the beauty of Botswana nature, the airport is turning Kasane into a regionally competitive tourist hub.
